septentrioNale

Is Syrah for red. With a touch of old vine Cabernet Sauvignon.
As white it is Viognier dominant, with Roussanne and Marsanne blended.
The 2020 Septentrionale rouge is soft ruby. Crimson at the rim.
The nose is pungent, gamey, smoky, with wafts of sweet dried Mediterranean herbs. In the mouth, skins of black cherries and drying hints of black olive. A restrained finish. The savoury nature and texture of a cooler vintage.
2021 Septentrionale Blanc is now a rich lemon hue.
Delicate aromas of spiced peach skin vie with riper pineapple.
In the mouth too stonefruit alternates with tropical, and hints
of a warm drying minerality. Serve ice cold.

provencale
Is mostly Mourvèdre for red and rosé.
But reflects a season with proportions of Carignan, Cinsaut, Morrastel, Grenache, and sometimes Counoise or Syrah. In 2020 the Provencale red is dense dark ruby. Hints of cherry and red currant conserve, but mostly a sweet forest floor herbal whiff, and smoked meats. In the mouth bramble fruits give way to drying earth and richer game flavours. The finish is taut, sinewy, herbal, from the cooler year. The 2021 Provencale Rose' shows a copper caste, a peach skin blush. It smells of earthy peach stone, mineral infused dried herbs and flowers. In the mouth it is taut, saline, showing crushed minerals, baked earth, warm stone fruit. Chill well. |
deuxieme

Is second.
Declassified parcels from Meridionale and Provencale.
Exact varietal composition varies with the season.
The 2020 Deuxieme is garnet. Still dense at the rim.
The nose is delicate fine grained earth, faint ripe fresh cherry scents, sweet herbs, old fashioned roses.
In the mouth it is already developed, savoury, genuinely sympathetic to rich food pairing.
